Why a garage door will not close
When a garage door will not close, distinguish refusal to start from movement followed by reversal. Those details help separate a control or sensor issue from a door-travel problem without bypassing the safety system.
Record the stage where closing fails
Does the door stay fully open, descend a short distance, reverse near the floor or stop unevenly? Note that position and any visible diagnostic sequence. Mention whether the fault is intermittent or follows a recent impact or moved storage. Do not keep cycling a door that scrapes, tilts or has a loose cable. A brief observation made during normal use is enough to describe the pattern for an assessment.
For an intermittent fault, record the time and visible conditions when it occurs naturally, including whether nearby items have moved. Report that history without trying to reproduce the failure. A technician can decide which model-specific checks are appropriate for the pattern.
Check the visible path safely
From outside the door's travel, see whether stored items or another object obstruct the opening or the sensor path. Keep children, pets and vehicles away. Obvious damage or a displaced sensor should be reported rather than repaired by changing wiring. If the door itself looks crooked or unsupported, leave the entire system alone. Clearing a visible object does not prove that every other safety and operating function is correct.
Interpret indicators for the exact model
Sensor-light colors and operator flash patterns depend on the manufacturer and model. Use the correct manual and note which indicator you are describing: the sensor, wall control and overhead unit may show different information. Do not apply a universal light-color chart to unfamiliar equipment. A closing problem can involve alignment, wiring, a sensor, the operator or door movement; a technician should identify the relevant condition before recommending parts.
Restore normal closing rather than overriding it
Do not defeat a photoelectric beam, adjust force upward or use an alternate control technique as a routine workaround. Ask how the diagnosis will distinguish safety-system faults from travel resistance and how normal operation will be verified afterward. If the open garage creates a security problem, explain that when asking I-95 Garage Door about availability, and ask for advice appropriate to the actual door. An enquiry acknowledgement does not confirm a visit.
